A Group For (Gulp) Intellectual Discourse?
Is anyone out there interested in participating in a group devoted to civil intellectual discussion on topics in the humanities, physical sciences, human sciences, etc. ? I, for one, would welcome a place to chew over things I've read or read about in (or on) Edge.org, Arts and Letters Daily, The New Yorker, L.A. Times Book Review, Open Democracy, Scientific American, Crooked Timber, etc. -- as well as broad questions of philosophical, academic and aesthetic interest.
My thought is to have a place where people can take a longer perspective than is dictated by current events and fashions. My hope is to find people who, once they have settled on a topic they deem worthy of discussion, are willing to do a little work to explore it -- to research on the web and in print and to summarize what they find.
Are there enough people out there in VOX-land to make such a group viable?

Absolutely! Especially if:
a) they bring friends (there will have to be more than the two of us to get this thing going) ; and
b) they do not suddenly reveal themselves to be acid and surly.
Muahahah, indeed!
